Meet Jessie

My father-in-law made a drinking fountain out of a fire hydrant for our front yard and he gave it to us a few weeks ago. Last Tuesday, Matt came home from work and told me that he was going to go to CAL-Ranch to get a few things so that he could install the drinking fountain and he was going to take Collin and Annie with him. I thought that it would be nice to have a quiet moment at home with just Michael and I so I said that would be fine. After Matt had been gone for a bit, he called to tell me to check Facebook. There on Matt’s page was a recently uploaded picture of a cute little dachshund puppy (I’ve been wanting one for quite some time). I was instantly suspicious and started to say things like “Matt what are you doing?” I had planned to wait at least until spring to complicate our home with a dog. A few moments later, Collin and Annie come bursting through the garage door with Matt following behind like a little kid himself holding this tiny little puppy!
He proceeded to inform me that he’d never intended to go to CAL-Ranch. He’d made an appointment that afternoon to meet a lady in Spanish Fork that breeds Dachshunds and thought that the kids would enjoy picking out a puppy, which they did. Matt bought her for me to cheer me up after my aunt dying. Her family has a pair of dachshunds and that is what introduced me to then to the point that I thought it would be a good choice of dog for us. We took the puppy outside to play with her and to try to come up with a name. Collin liked the name Ellie, but there is a girl on our street named that, and thought it might be weird for her if we’re ever outside trying to call to our dog.
Matt thought maybe Tink and I liked Gabby, but nothing really seemed to work. So we thought “We like Pixar movies, let go through the characters in the movies and see if anything jumps out at us. There was Colette from Ratatouille, Boo from Monsters, Dory from Finding Nemo, and then Jessie from Toy Story 2. Jessie. Jessie sounded good. So, being dubbed Jessie, we loaded everyone up in the car and headed to PetsMart for a collar, food and any other new puppy necessities. She is a very fun dog and all the kids just love her. She is definitely a baby and likes to cuddle, mostly at night while the other kids are in bed and things are a little more quiet. She fun to take places because for now she fits in my purse or in the kangaroo pocket of a hoodie.
We’ve taken her to The Quilted Bear, Target, and a pumpkin patch. My biggest concern about Jessie is that the kids will love her so much that she’ll be smashed, squashed or squeezed to death by one or all of my kids before she’s 6 months old.
